The Church Is Bound and Blinded By Religion

Legalism, the act or mindset of making sure everything is “by the book” and there are no deviations from the law. This act is what destroys and prohibits most people from growing and thriving; the act that causes extreme fear in his or her walk with Christ. This mindset destroys and goes completely against the Word of God, but thus it is prevalent in a large majority of the modern day church; my estimations are up to 90% or more.

Legalism is also known as and takes the form of the “spirit of religion” and “traditional teaching and beliefs”; it is widely prevalent in the gospels, but hardly anyone notices it. People notice the most obvious, but don’t notice the subtle details and how it manifests in most of us – and not just the church.

Legalism – the death of the church and modern-day relationship. The Pharisees in the gospels are poster boys of this mindset and religious act. So often it takes the form of “protecting the church” or “defending the faith”, but all it is, is just denying those it doesn’t like and refusing those who actually need help, healing, and salvation, thus killing the ones who actually need help.
